One down, two to go...

GM is back at work! So, we're not sure if Chrysler or Ford will be next at negotiating (they may even go at the same time). So we'll just wait and see. Thanks so much to all of you for being a little pep squad for me. We're not out of the dark yet, but we can see the light. I really do appreciate you all just taking an interest. It's been really nice.

I need to go do some stuff for a bit, but I'll be back later to GET MY SNARK ON!

I still don't really get the strike stuff. So it's possible that the other companies might still strike? They always make it seem like it's a Done Deal on the news.

The way I understand it in my white collar brain is that each contract is individual to each company so any one of them can strike individually. If the GM union workers don't vote this contract in, they can still go back on strike. The UAW usually says at the outset of negotiations which of the automakers is targeted for a strike and they base that on which contract will be more volatile. This go-around, they targeted GM to strike because the health care for retirees is such a huge deal. But Ford or Chrysler could strike if they don't like the offers from their companies. It's all crazy. I guess the first contract kind of sets the precedent for the others, but all UAW workers don't have to react in the same ways because the contracts differ between automakers. Now my head hurts...
